Portugal – and the Algarve has been inhabited for thousands of years with evidence dating back to prehistoric sites – however, it was the Moors from north Africa who named the area “Al Gharb” – The West.
In summer the temperature peaks at around 30ºC and in winter rarely below 15ºC.

The so-called “Golden Triangle” is made up of three distinct areas – to the East the luxurious resort of Quinta do Lago with it´s superb quality homes and some small resorts comprising townhouses and apartments. This is one of the premier locations in the area and properties are priced accordingly. Quinta do Lago has a wide range of sporting and pleasure activities – “The Campus” Sports Complex, Quinta do Lago golf course with 36 holes in all, together with Pinheiros Altos 3 x 9 hole combinations and Laranjal -18 holes within the area. San Lorenzo golf course also ranks highly as among the best in Europe with some spectacular holes over water and wildlife areas. Nearby Quinta Shopping at the entrance to the resort has quality boutiques, a supermarket, cafes and restaurants.
A few kms west of Quinta do Lago is Vale do Lobo – a well known and much loved family resort with a glorious beach and many entertainment venues including restaurants, a Club, child minding and the “praca” area with plenty of family entertainment and nightlife, providing opportunities to make new friends. Vale do Lobo has excellent sporting facilities including a famous golf course, from which some holes enjoy a fabulous view of the ocean. There is also a popular 12 court tennis centre – an ideal place to socialise and have fun.
Almancil is a small service town which forms the “peak” of the Golden Triangle and within this area are cafes, supermarkets, banks and many shops etc. to supply the demands of locals and visitors. Thus the geographic “Triangle” of this famous area is formed.
